There I was, lazing on the Sunday afternoon two weeks ago, surfing the net and I came across this beautiful quote ‘If 5 seconds of a smile can make a photograph more beautiful, then just imagine if you keep smiling how beautiful your life will be…” It is such a simple concept yet so powerful. So, I decided to set this as a professional resolution for this new year.
Welcome to the first working week of 2014. Hope you had a great Christmas and New Year. By now you probably have already set a personal resolution and if you are a business owner like me, you are possibly in the process of setting up your business goals also. So, for me setting resolution was simple – more smiles! That’s it, nothing more, nothing less. That’s our resolution for this year. We want to help our clients, our fellow team members and other stakeholders smile more, have more fun, be more happy. What looked like a simple resolution turned into a much larger discussion within our team.
You see, resolution is different to setting goals. Resolution is something you live up to every day. It is what you work towards every day. Sometimes you succeed and sometime you fail. But everyday you work towards your resolution. So, we decided, ‘more smiles’ it is. Obviously everyone was excited, but setting goals in line with our resolution was a challenging task. We all have different reasons to smile. How do we set our goals to cater to such a wide resolution. Goals need to be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely. We asked ourselves; what can we do individually and as a team for our clients to help them smile more, to make their life a little bit easier, to be one of the reasons for their happiness and success. Abraham Lincoln once said that the best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Together as a team, we set out at least one goal each for 2014 and it aligns with the company resolution i.e. to make and keep our clients smile more by making their life easy.
